To put it simply, this is the most over-engineered piece of clothing we've ever sold. Every single detail has been meticulously planned, right down to the high-qualityGerman zippers. Each finished parka represents a hilarious amount of labor — the sewing alonemust have taken hours.
There's a detachable collar and liner, a three-layer waterproof shell, a hook and loop secured system of deployable reflective panels, and pockets in the liner and on both sides of the shell.
The end result of this is a three-season jacket that can be configured for any weather and lights up like a ScotchliteChristmas tree on demand. The only thing missing is air conditioning and a built-in GPS.
It's also worth noting that this particular jacket is rare. We've seen a lot of Polizei parkas, and this is the only batch we've seen since finding an original batch back in 2018. From what we can tell these were produced under contract for Saarland, Germany's smallest state in both area and population.
Generations
The Gen 1 and Gen 2 parkas are very similar, andhave all of the features as seen in the 'Specs' section. However, there are a few differences:
Gen 1:These parkas were made under contract forSaarland in the early 2000's to mid 2000's. Parkas feature two side-zip pockets inbetween the upper breast pocket and hip pockets, and feature aSaarland patch sewn in, rather than as a separate embroidered velcro patch. Back flap is secured via a zipper, and Polizei text flap is secured by velcro when deployed. Modular Scotchlite panels at the bottom of the parka are secured by snaps rather than velcro.
Gen 2: Parkas were manufactured in the late 2000's to early 2010's. Parkas feature an embroidered Saarlandvelcro patch rather than a sewn in patch. Back flap is velcro only for deployment of the Polizei text. Modular Scotchlite panels at the bottom of the parka are secured by velcro.
